San Francisco Homeless Point in Time Count Reports

San Francisco Homeless Point in Time Count Reports

Every two years the City of San Francisco conducts a HUD-mandated census of the homeless population.  The Point in Time Count methodology has improved over the years and includes a visual assessment of people living unsheltered in San Francisco, a census of all shelter and transitional housing programs, and a survey of people experiencing homelessness.   We combine these sources to produce the Point in Time Count Reports.

Applied Survey Research and the San Francisco Department of Homelessness and Supportive Housing have issued revised versions of the 2017 San Francisco Homeless Count and Survey Report and the 2017 San Francisco Homeless Youth Count Report.  The total shelter and unsheltered count numbers have not changed, there were changes in the supervisorial district distribution of some shelters addresses due to initially miscoded data.  A review of longitudinal supervisorial district shelter count data revealed similar errors in the district assignments of some shelter locations in 2013, 2015 and 2017. This data has been corrected. We apologize for the inconvenience, and we have taken steps to prevent this from re-occurring in the future.
